Which sizes do I actually need?

Modern sites typically ship 32×32 and 16×16 for tabs, 180×180 for Apple touch, and 192×192 plus 512×512 for web app manifests. Browsers pick the closest declared size.

What belongs in manifest.json?

Reference your maskable 192/512 icons, theme colors, and start URL so installed PWAs get a polished splash screen.

How do I handle dark mode favicons?

Provide alternate link tags or SVG favicons that adapt via prefers-color-scheme so the glyph stays visible on dark browser chrome.

Should I use ICO or PNG?

PNG and SVG cover most evergreen browsers; legacy ICO bundles multiple sizes in one file if you must support very old clients.

Why does my icon look blurry?

Design on an even grid, keep padding inside the safe zone, and export at integral multiples of the target size to avoid resampling artifacts.

Can I merge these into my Astro or Next app?

Drop files into /public and reference them from layout metadata; frameworks simply emit static tags.

Processing happens locally; images are not kept on QuickCalci servers.

Do I need separate splash screens?

iOS and Android use manifest icons for install prompts; marketing splash art is separate from favicons.
